This itinerary is designed to give you a comprehensive taste of what makes Scotland so captivating, from the historic streets of its capital to the mystical beauty of its highlands and islands.

Scotland has many treasures crammed into its compact territory: big skies, ancient architecture, spectacular wildlife, superb seafood and hospitable, down-to-earth people.  During this 10 day adventure you will visit the enchanting city of Edinburgh, walk along the shores of Loch Ness where you might try to catch a glimpse of "Nessie," follow in the footsteps of the inventors of golf at St. Andrew's, marvel at the naked beauty of the Highlands, and listen to the iconic sounds of bagpipers.  Enjoy the famous Highland Games in at least one location!

Limited to only 16 travelers, this all-inclusive adventure will be sure to leave you with many great memories of this small, yet fiercely proud part of the United Kingdom (Package prices are based upon double occupancy, though we do offer a very reasonable single supplement).

A Lasting Impact ....

Scotland has been the source of inspiration for poets, novelists, musicians, actors and more thanks to its beautiful landscapes, vast history and varied culture:

On its capital, Edinburgh: “This is a city of shifting light, of changing skies, of sudden vistas. A city so beautiful it breaks the heart again and again.” - Alexander McCall Smith

On its beauty: “There are few places in my life that I’ve found more ruggedly beautiful than the Highlands of Scotland. The place is magical - it’s so far north, so remote, that sometimes it feels like you’ve left this world and gone to another.” - Julia London

Arrive Edinburgh. Guided Walking tour of the Royal Mile

 Edinburgh

Perched dramatically atop a series of extinct volcanoes, Edinburgh is a city of striking contrasts and breathtaking beauty, where ancient history collides with a vibrant, contemporary energy. The capital of Scotland, its landscape is a captivating tapestry of rugged crags, medieval alleyways, and elegant Georgian avenues, creating one of the most unique and memorable cityscapes in the world.

At its heart, Edinburgh is famously a city of two tales.

The Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a labyrinth of history, where the centuries are etched into the very stones. It is dominated by the majestic Edinburgh Castle, a formidable fortress perched on Castle Rock, offering panoramic views of the city below. From the castle's gates, the historic Royal Mile tumbles down the ridge, a bustling thoroughfare flanked by narrow, winding alleys known as closes and wynds. Walking here is a journey back in time, with towering tenement buildings, hidden courtyards, and centuries-old pubs creating an atmosphere thick with stories and secrets.

In stark contrast, the New Town, another UNESCO World Heritage site, showcases the city's intellectual and prosperous 18th-century Enlightenment era. Here, you'll find a masterpiece of city planning, with broad, orderly streets, grand Georgian and Neoclassical architecture, and elegant garden squares. The New Town is a hub of sophisticated shopping, fine dining, and art galleries, exuding an air of refined grace and order that perfectly complements the Old Town's raw, organic history.

Late morning/Early afternoon--  Arrival at Edinburgh airport and transfer to the city center.

Afternoon--  Enjoy Edinburgh iconic Royal Mile in the heart of the city led by a local guide!   You will become acquainted with the city’s fascinating history on a walking tour of the UNESCO-listed Old Town, whose cobbled streets and narrow alleys lend themselves well to wandering.

Evening-- Check in at centrally located upscale boutique hotel & dinner together at local restaurant

 Visit Edinburgh Castle

The moment you find yourself in the city centre of Edinburgh, you’re bound to notice Edinburgh Castle. It’s located high up on Castle Rock (which is actually of volcanic origin) where it oversees the city from its strategic position. Edinburgh Castle has stood in its place for centuries and has been involved in many historical events, such as the Wars of Scottish Independence.

Time on your own to explore

In any city, we try to allow time for you to explore.  It is hard to think of a city better suited for this than Edinburgh .... Wander the narrow streets and browse the many tasteful shops, have a pint at the one of the many pubs, enjoy a coffee where J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter, and many other options.

3 Hour Food Tour

Get the full Edinburgh food experience, indulging in innovative twists on Scottish favorites in everything from centuries-old taverns to the newest and most popular street food shops.

Highland Games in Inverness

It is only about three hours by private bus to Inverness and the Scottish Highlands where on this day you will experience the famed Highland Games!

Highland Games

A celebration of Scottish and Gaelic culture, the Highland Games are a spectacular and unmissable experience for anyone visiting Scotland or interested in its heritage. These vibrant gatherings, held in scenic locations across the country and indeed the world, are a thrilling mix of sport, music, dance, and community. Given the current date of July 2025, you are in the heart of the Highland Games season, which traditionally runs from May to September.

What to Expect at the Highland Games

A day at the Highland Games is a feast for the senses. Key events and attractions typically include:

  • Heavy Athletics: These are the iconic sporting events of the games. Prepare to be amazed by the incredible strength of the competitors in events such as:
    • Caber Toss: The most famous event, where athletes toss a long, heavy log called a caber. The goal is not distance, but to have the caber turn end over end and land in the 12 o'clock position.
    • Stone Put: Similar to the modern shot put, but often using a large, rounded stone from a local river.
    • Scottish Hammer Throw: A heavy, spherical weight attached to a shaft is swung around the head and thrown for distance.
    • Weight for Height: Athletes throw a heavy weight over a high bar using only one hand.
  • Piping and Drumming: The stirring sound of bagpipes is the soundtrack to the Highland Games. You will witness impressive solo piping and drumming competitions, as well as the magnificent spectacle of full pipe bands marching and playing in unison.
  • Highland Dancing: Watch dancers of all ages perform intricate and energetic dances such as the Highland Fling, the Sword Dance, and the Scottish Lilt, all while dressed in traditional tartan kilts.
  • Food, Drink, and Stalls: Enjoy a wide array of Scottish food and drink, from hearty venison burgers and steak pies to local ales and whiskies. Numerous stalls sell Scottish crafts, clothing, and souvenirs.
  • Clan Gatherings: Many games feature clan tents, where members of local and international clans gather to celebrate their shared heritage. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn about Scottish ancestry.

After a full day enjoying the Highland Games, we will check into our Inverness hotel and have dinner at one of Inverness's highly rated restaurants.
